We are always consumed by the end product of what we are working for. Don’t get me wrong. Goals are essential to us so we will have visions and motivations in life, but most of the time, we are so excited for the outcome that we want to skip the journey.
When we start to go on a diet or working out, we tend to check the weighing scale frequently expecting to see results when we all know it takes months to achieve the real weight loss. When we beat our ass off at work and push ourselves to our limits, we expect to be praised, awarded or promoted right away when we all know it takes years to hone a leader.
I, myself, am guilty of rushing things when I want to get married last year. There’s nothing wrong with the excitement but I realized my motives were not that clear. I was engrossed of marrying at the right age and thinking about quarter-life crisis so I made a timeline for myself which obviously did not work.
On the other hand, when I began to feel the relief from my panic attacks, I was so eager to get rid of my medications that I did everything to reach that goal. I became active, denied caffeine and controlled my sugar intake. Last month, I experienced two mini attacks which lasted for just a few minutes. I was frustrated at myself because I have worked so hard and I don’t want to relapse. My psychiatrist told me that it’s normal. Those attacks were just overflows and that I should not be too hard on myself. He said I should rather tap my back for having a fast and impressive recovery! It was then when I realized that I just started treatment on the last week of January and it has only been two months. Some patients are treated for years! I was way ahead of myself! I was expecting too much.
I hope this will make you realize that we should all slow down and enjoy the moment. God is not in a hurry. You are. It’s why you are tired. It’s why you are anxious, stressed and disappointed. Let us trust Him and His plans for us. You’ll never experience the strength if you’re always skipping the struggle. Let us patiently wait for the right time. It will be all worth it!
